What is the SMAS layer?

The face consists of 5 layers.

(Skin – Subcutaneous fat – SMAS – Ligaments – Deep fascia)
The SMAS layer is a thin fascia layer below the skin and subcutaneous fat that sags along with the skin as we age. If only the skin is pulled without addressing the SMAS layer, the lifting effect is reduced, and it may lead to severe scarring or the formation of pixie ears.
